Meet Nindra the Agoraphobic Koala
Meet Nindra - your mentally fluffy friend.
Nindra lived in the highest eucalyptus tree on the edge of the forest. Her name meant “dream,” and it suited her — because Nindra spent most of her days dreaming about the world beyond the branches.
But she never went down. Not even once.
The forest was too open. Too wide. Too loud. The idea of leaving her tree made her heart pound like a woodpecker on bark. What if she got lost? What if she ran into a predator? What if everyone stared?
So Nindra stayed.
Her tree was her whole world. She knew every leaf, every knot in the bark. She watched the sun rise and fall through the same frame of branches every day. And though she was safe, she often felt… stuck.
She wasn't lazy. She wasn't unfriendly. She just couldn’t bring herself to go out there — not yet.
Other animals whispered about her.
"She’s odd," said a wallaby.
"Maybe she just likes it up there," said a wombat.
"Maybe she’s scared," said a small lizard who once caught a glimpse of her eyes.
He was right.
One day, a young bird named Pip landed on her branch. He’d been flying and gotten caught in the wind. His wing was hurt, and he couldn’t make it back to his nest.
“I can’t go anywhere either,” Nindra said softly.
So, she helped him. Fed him eucalyptus leaves dipped in morning dew. Told him stories about the stars. And when Pip’s wing healed, something unexpected happened.
He asked, “Can I come back and visit you?”
“...You want to?” she said, genuinely surprised.
“I like it here,” he chirped. “It’s quiet. And so are you. But in a good way.”
From that moment on, Nindra’s world grew—bit by bit. Pip brought stories from the forest floor. He described colors and scents and friends who weren’t so scary once you got to know them.
Nindra didn’t climb down. Not yet.
But one morning, she reached out a paw and touched the trunk below her branch. Just a little. Just enough.
Because sometimes, healing doesn’t look like leaping from trees.
Sometimes it starts with one paw on the bark... and someone who listens.
